friend of mine owns a flyshop I had him order me some stuff from merrick tackle
one of the items was a steelhead decal came with no instructions I dont believe its a waterslide want to place it over a simple butt wrap can i apply the decal to the threads after a light coat of epoxy then after it dries add another coat of epoxy over the decal?I think I read in another post to cut the outline of the decal out with scissors apply the decal then remove the outter skin?

thanx steve

Hi Steve,
To answer your first question. Yes
Not sure about the second as I have not used a decal from Merrick yet.

Scroll down about half way on this page [www.merricktackle.com] and click on the "how to apply contour cut decals" link. It is a PDF file.

I use Merrick's stick on fish decals.

Yes, cut around the perimeter of the outline of the fish removing as much excess film as possible.

Yes, do apply over a coat of freshly cured finish.

On other thing that I do, lay a piece of paper over the decal and burnish the decal to ensure it's nice and flat, and adhered to the blank. After this step I apply a coat of color preserver, let dry, the apply finish. The reason for the cp is that finish sometimes attacks the decal adhesive and will lift the decal osme. Not with cp applied.
