Has anyone ever tried signing a rod by wood burning a wooden insert? If so, was it hard to do? Re: wood burning

It's not hard to do, but it requires good penmanship. Or, the good penmanship of someone you know.
There is another way to do this as well - many woodworking supply companies offer wood burners that can be fitted with a brand or stamp of your signature. This way, you get the exact same brand on every wood item you burn. No freehand writing required. If you simply want your company name in the wood, this is probably the best way to go. If you want to be able to use different signatures or different nomenclature on each rod, then you'll have to freehand things. ........... Re: wood burning

Bruce,
I burn feather outlines on wooden decoys and use artists transfer paper to trace the pattern on the wood before using a fine point on the wood burning tool. Guess it would work with a signature also. The only problem might be getting a small enough signature on the curved surface of an insert. I have a couple scrap inserts and will give it a try and let you know how it turns out. You also might be able to have someone make you a stencel out of some type of metal.
