Hi,
How do you handle this situation. I have a blank that I want to start building on, but I've noticed that I have a very thin splinter separating from the blank and running about 11/2 inches from the top. Do I break it off, glue it back on or leave it as is and put a tip top on it? I'm guessing that glue would be the choice, but which glue? I wouldn't trust five minute expoxy, to rigid. What about rod bond which is more flexible, and then wiping off all excess (essentially all that I can see)? Thanks, Dave Re: splintering blank tip

I would just put a tip top on, and wrap a "tip wrap" with matching thread over whatever is left of the splinter that is exposed. Another option is to cut the splintered portion off - but personally I would nto go that far....

David,
I agree with Lou. Since the splinter is only 1.5 inches, the tip top will cover about .5 inches, and you can do a decorative tip wrap (two colors?) over the rest. A 1 inch tip wrap will not look weird, and once you epoxy it, it will be stronger than the original section of blank. The action will not be affected at all.
