RodMaker Bound Sets

A few days ago I mentioned the possibility of obtaining RodMaker Magazine volumes in bound sets. I signed the deal today to have the binders made and screen printed.

They will be sized to perfectly fit and hold 6 issues (contents of one volume) and feature interior wires to hold the magazines. No holes need to be punched or drilled and the magazines can be removed and re-inserted without damage or modifications to them or the binder.

Binder color has not been decided at this point but will be dark with white or gold screen printing "RodMaker Magazine" and Volume 8 #X" will be on the spine (and no, you cannot prevent magazine twist by binder spine orientation). They will be quite attractive. I wouldn't do them unless I was sure they'd look nice.

The price will be $44.95 per volume which includes all 6 issues from a given volume, the deluxe binder plus priority mail shiipping via USPS. Not a bad deal. 6 back issues alone normally would run you $41.70. Expected delivery will be about 3 to 4 weeks from today. You can wait until I announce they've arrived, or pre-order and I'll get your volume/s out as soon as they come in. I had hoped to have some of these in Charlotte, but time did not permit. Checks should be made payable to RodMaker Magazine and mailed to: PO Box 1322, High Point, NC 27261. Volumes available will be #'s 5, 6, 7 and 8. Only 400 sets will be offered on this initial run. More may be done later depending upon demand.

I will have photos made of the binder once they arrive.

I will try and see what I can do on selling just the binders for those who already own complete volume sets. Biggest problem is cost - the things run me $10 each and by the time I ship we'd be looking at nearly $15 to $18 just for the binder alone. But I'll run it through my head and see what I can come up with.

That is a great idea. I would think that anyone who does not have a complete set of RodMaker magazines for reference would jump on this offer.

Tom you actually have a sense of humor "cannot prevent magazine twist by binder spine orientation". That does beg the question though, is the issue that covers spiral wraps upside down in the binder.

Good question. One reason I went with the wire retainer rods was that they offered a shorter lever arm than did the ring binders. So torque won't be much of an issue, regardless of whether or not I put them in right side up, or upside down.

Any chance you can highlight the topics of interest for each volume?

The contents of each issue are listed in full on the back issue page at www.rodmakermagazine.com

I won't be able to ship these outside the country for the time being. Sorry.

Hi Shawn,

As someone that has purchased and read every issue (more than once) I can say that there are "topics of interest" in every issue. I have many of the publications relating to rodbuilding and it's almost always that I find myself going back to RodMaker's magazine for information. IMO any new rodbuilder that's going to continue building rods every year should have every issue.

For those who know me I'm not one to kiss up to Tom Kirkman but his magazine is second to none and I don't mind saying so at all. Do yourself a big favor, purchase all that you can afford.

Yes. I may still be able to get a few sets ready by next week, but even if not, I can take orders and ship them out when I return.

Thanks Milton. I have subscribed for two years so I have two volumes, 7 and 8. I agree it's all good, but I only care to have a handfull that touch on topics that I am not as familiar with. I guess I should have said list the highlights of each volume as I am sure it's all a topic of interest. Either way, thanks Tom that's exactly what I had hoped for. For anyone else looking, here is the page to see [rodmakermagazine.com]

If not for Rodmakers Magazine rod building would still be where it was 10 years ago. A few people doing threadwork and everybody else arguing over rod spine. Rodmakers ushered in a new and fresh era in the world of custom rod building. My .02. I already have full sets but would also be interested in getting binders for mine.

Contractually I may exorcise my legal rights to obtain the first set for each year if they happen to show up in Charlotte. Please review the earlier post when you announced that they would be available in Charlotte. I did not complain, barter, negotiate or in any manner do anything but place my order immediately. I did not require such a glitzy cover nor am I not complaing about the increase in previously anounced price. I will consider serious litigation if you show up in Charlotte and do not permit me to obtain one bound copy of each volume available. I will also ask you and any authors present in Charlotte autograph copies at no charge.

And I quote from your previous post!

I sincerely hope my diligent pursuit of this treasure will not impede my early acquistion of this museum piece. I am aware that the choice of the word "should" relieves you from suffering serious damages in civil court procedings. If you show up with a sample to tease all of us I may just have to turn Clyde loose in your booth!

Your previous post --

Over the years many builders have asked me about buying bound sets of RodMaker. I have located some nice binders and am having year-sets bound in complete volumes. These will sell for $35 per volume/year and include the binder. Regular price for the same 6 issues currently is about $42 and does not include the binder. I should have volumes 5, 6, 7 and 8 available there.

I may entertain offering these by mail order later but the mailing/shipping is going to run about $10 per volume. For now, it'll just be a show special in Charlotte.

The above post that started this thread supercedes the earlier one. I will not have any of these in Charlotte. Sorry. Wish the timeline had worked out so that I could have had them there.
