Does anyone know where I can find a cutaway reel seat something like the ones on the G.Loomis Streamdance or the Orvis Zero Gravity? Basically its an aluminum seat with an artistic cutaway to reveal an insert underneath. Nice touch but I cannot seem to find one. Checked Bellinger, Pac Bay, Batson, the likes. No deal. I'm pretty sure that REC makes those for Loomis. They do not currently sell them to others, however.
You can make your own easy enough (an upcoming article in RodMaker shows how). In the meantime, just plot and cut out whatever portion you want to remove. Sleeve the blank with something that will fit nicely inside the seat and show through the cut-out. Your only problem is that you may damage the seat barrel anodizing or leave a different colored edge where you made the cut. This all depends on upon the particular seat you use. ...........
