Okay, I'm stuck.
I've an old (pre-IPC) model St Croix Legend Ultra 2-piece, 8 foot, 4 weight blank, and I'm looking to build it with black Concept Fuji Alconites. The problem that I'm running into is two-fold (I think). First, the tip diameter on the blank is 3.5 and I can't seem to find anyone who sells the 3.6 I.D. Fuji Alconite tip tops. Second, even if I can find a 3.6 I.D. tip top, its ring size is a 5 and the smallest ring diameter in the single foot Alconite guides that Fuji makes are size 6 (so I'm going from a series of size 6 running guides to a size 5 tip top). I'm concerned that this will cause line-flow problems. Am I just missing something obvious? As always thanks in advance for any help you can give. B. Re: An Alconite Conundrum

Bradley, it's hopeless. Just send me that blank and move on to your next project.
Use BLAG6 running guides and a BFAT tip top with 4.0 tube and 6 ring. No worries and no problems. That'll be a sweet rod. If you've got a line on another of those blanks, please e-mail me. I've been looking for one. Re: An Alconite Conundrum

I can't Bill. I don't know where he lives or where he keeps his race horse. Re: An Alconite Conundrum

I have carefully looked at all my Alconites through a magnifying glass and can not find conundrum written on any of them! Wassup!

Funny, guys. Buncha comedians.
It occurred to me when I saw Steve's reply and knew exactly what he meant by BLAG and BFAT that my wife might just be right about me being a great big nerd. I gotta get out more, or I'm gonna start dreaming of waking up next to a giant severed fish head (hopefully a nice sized brown) that moans at me, "BLAG, BLAG!" Or worse, "Conuuuunnnndrum!" Whenever I'm putting a tip-top on a rod, I find the closest tip-top I can find, then shim the blank with thread. Whenever the difference is really small, but still worthy of shimming, I use gossamer silk to take up the space. Whenever it's a little larger, I use sz. A thread. So, if it was me, I'd use gossamer to bulk up that tip, so that it fits a BFAT6(4.0), then use the BLAG6s for running guides.
