DOES ROD MAKER MAGAZINE HAVE GOOD INFO FOR BEGINNERS OR MOSTLY PEOPLE WITH EXPERIENCE? HOW MANY ISSUES PER YEAR? IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET A FREE COPY OR JUST PURCHASE A SINGLE COPY TO SEE IF I LIKE IT? I HAVE NOT FOUND A BOOKSTORE ANYWHERE NEAR ME THAT CARRIES IT. THANKS
P.S. I COMPLETED MY FIRST DIAMOND WRAP LAST NIGHT AS DESRIBED IN TOMS' ROD BUILDING BOOK. I DIDN'T THINK I WAS CAPABLE OF SOMETHING SO NEAT. THANKS

My printer does not provide me with any free copies and to send you a free copy would require that I sell no less than 4 new subscriptions to pay for it. So, I'm afraid that you'll just have to buy a single back issue to see if it appeals to you. A subscription is for 6 issues per year. If you happen to be at the National Rod Builders Show in two weeks, I'll have plenty of issues on hand and you can look through one, for free, right there in my booth. In fact you can look through several.

The magazine is filled with a great variety of information from very technical advanced material to very basic beginner stuff. It runs the gamut from one end to the other. It does feature a beginners corner so that you always get at least one article aimed at the very basics of rod building in each issue. I would find it hard to believe that you wouldn't find it very helpful if you intend to build rods for any length of time. Others may disagree and if so I'm sure they'll chime in here.

If you think you'll be getting into rod building in a big way then the magazine is more than worth your money. Plenty to learn and probably where most of the new ideas talked about on the various interent rod building sites originate from. Very well done publication.

But if you are only going to build a few rods or don't think you'll be sticking with it, I'd skip the magazine and just rely on your first book or two and make the most of sites like this one or others for any minor problems you might run into.

Rod Maker Magazine is a bargain at twice the price. I hope Tom doesn't read this........smile.....I look forward to getting each issue now. Still trying to buy back issues to stock my rod building library for the grand kids.
