You can go paper thin, but at that point you would probably be better off with a wind or two of thread. Depends on how much effort you have to expend to get them that thin.

The Wife is at 3cm and 50%, so who knows I may make it to the big show yet.

I've gone as thin as ~ 2 mm, but I had to make 2 tries to get it that thin. After a while, the arbor will collapse when being handled. Even though the arbor is that thin, the reelseat was firmly held and I haven't had any issues with it.

Now, on reflection I probably should have gone one or two wraps of fibreglass, or just did the rod bond + tape thing, but that's all in the past now :)

Michael, Explain to her that you will be able to enjoy the son/daughter for the rest of your life, but the Show only lasts for a weekend and then it's just a fond memory!!

James, Glue the arbor into the seat before you ream and it will be much more solid and easier to ream.

"How THIN do you go? ...

Aaawwh, shucks, ... I came here expecting
another rumble over Color Preserver !!!
Later Gators, ... -Cliff Hall+++

P.S. - IMO, for ~2mm, SKIP the ARBOR / BUSHING
and TRY thread or twine or a thick gap-filling epoxy.
Or no thread: PC-7 (paste epoxy) is still good for something, IMO.
Or ROD-BOND, with or without thread. Just don't let the reel seat
shift off-center while the epoxy jelly is curing, ... add a little thread
if needed. ... -CMH+++
