I recently aquired a fly rod with the inscription "Wards Precision" Can anyone tell me anything about this particular rod. I think it is bamboo and about a 5 weight Re: Ward's Precision

Wards was a hardware store that sold fly rods "back in the day." The rod was probably made by either Montague or Horrocks-Ibbotson, the big bamboo production houses of the day. It could fetch you 100-200$ depending on condition. Check out some bamboo ID books to verify the maker. Servicable but not remarkable. But hey, even an average bamboo rod still has that bamboo mystique & magic...enjoy!

Montgomery Ward's did indeed sell a lot of private label bamboo rods. This one may or may not be one of their's. I tend to recall a British company named Ward's that also made and sold bamboo rods.
Can you tell if the ferrules are machined or stamped? Sometimes that's a real tip off as to what quality level of rod you have. ............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
