Hi All,

A couple of days ago I saw a post that mentioned Global Rods and now there is a picture of pens posted by Putter with a decal that says Global Rods. Can someone tell me what this Global Rods is?

Thanks

Hank

I'm sure one of the participants will chime in with more details. In a nutshell, several rod builders from around the country are each adding their own unique touch to a couple rods that are being prepared for display and raffle at the National Rod Show. I believe they will be displayed in the NERBS booth.

Mike Joyce (NERBs member) originally thought this up and emailed about 13 people and we built two rods to raffle and use the monies for various things that promote rod building. Batson donated the blanks and guides. The builders supplied their own materials other than this and paid the shipping to the next person involved in the build.

The pens were some of the ones that I used to color coordinate the marbling that I did on one of the rods to see how these colors would look on the rod, Hank.

Email Billy Vivona or I'll buy what you want at Charlotte; I'm doing that for Doc, too.

Hank, I'm drilling wells in N.Hampton,NH tomorrow. How close is that to Wells? 1/2 hour? I could even show you the SW rod.

I expected that I'd only get enough positive responses for one "Global Rod", but just about everyone I asked said that they'd enjoy taking part in this.

THE BUILDERS

Steelhead Rod:
Ray Jorgansen- wood inlayed split grip
Mark Crouse- handle assembly, reel seat insert, decorative cross wrap (after the rod got snapped in two during a shipping incident. Mark was able to salvage the rear grip with great effort, and mount on a second blank, and second decorative wrap...three cheers for that effort!!) Guides and final finish.
David Boyle- VisualWrap design of the decorative wrap
Jim Upton - 360 weave ("Global Rods 2005" and a secret design)
Dennis Papike - weave (Batson ent. Logo?...haven't seen it yet)

Saltwater Spin:

Andy Dear- walnut split grip and reelseat insert
Mike McGiveney- rear decorative wrap
Billy Vivona- fore decorative wrap
Doc Ski- snook weave
Randy "Putter"Parpart- marbled trim and decal
Michael Joyce-Trim the marbled trim, guide wraps, finish

Due to time constraints...Hiro Tanaka wasn't able to do the guide wraps on the steelhead rod...because I haven't completed the SW rod yet, I'll leave a guide open for him to wrap in Charlotte at the NERBS booth. Jim seems to think that he'd be willing to do it.

Due to time constraints...John Dow was asked to come visit and do some kind of feather inlay , maybe alignment dots for the two pc....running out of time we decided the inlay could be done in the truck on the way to Charlotte. (16 hour drive) With a DC adapter...this could be the first feather inlay ever done at 75 mph! lol.

I have to thank the participants for the amount of MANHOURS and talent they dedicated to this project, and Batson Enterprises for providing the blanks and components...Thank You.

The rods will be on display at the Batson booth...though the SW rod will probablly have some final touches done to it saturday morning at the NERBS booth.

75% of the raffle proceeds will go towards providing books for libraries, with 25% going towards assisting rodbuilders that directly teach children and young adults, the art of rodbuilding....this raffle is a chance for all rodbuilders to "help" out, and be involved in this project.

Mike
