i am fairly new to using much in the way of cork tape grips but I have been admiring many of the pix i see on this sight with the nice, flowing transitions from the end of the cork tape to the rod blank....my question is, what is the secret? should i be using a rubber winding check that I can epoxy over? I have just been threading over the cork and onto the blank and transitioning that way....it come out even but is bulkier that some of the transitions i have seen...thanks Re: cork tape transitions

With a fresh single edged razor blade taper the edge to the blank. Extend the taper approx 1/4". Use size "D" thread to bind the cork tape down...

Electrical heat shrink tubing works great as well. More $ than thread but quicker to install. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: cork tape transitions

Raymond: I'm working on my first surf rod and I'm exploring my options for cork tape transitions. I like the shrink tubing idea and can it take epoxy? I'd like to see if I can make is nice and shiny for cosmetic reasons as well as possibly making it more durable. Any ideas are welcome.
