C-clamp thread tensioner

I have a small, portable C-clamp thread tensioner. I think it was made by Thompson but it does not have a company name on it. I would like to get another one but I can't find a look alike in any catalogs or on the net. It works very slick on my homemade 1" wood material rod wrapper. Anyone know where I can pick one up? Thanks Steve

Golden Witch has them. Link to the left.

There's also a very simple C-clamp thread tensioner called the Calvin wrapper. It is even simpler than the Thompson design. It literally IS a C-clamp with a little post attached to it (to hold the thread), some vinyl washers and a locking wing nut. I have one and it's what I use - after I graduated from the "thread through the book" method. I think I paid $6 for it about 6 years ago from Cabelas. Almost 250 rods and going strong. Every time I get ready to upgrade, I ask the question "why" and that's why I still use it. No good answer to that question yet. If and when I upgrade, I'll buy the Golden Witch "improved Thompson". It looks like it would work great.

Steve, I contacted Cabelas and they informed me that they had discontinued selling the Calvin wrapper in 2004. I feel the portable wrapper from Golden Witch to be a little beyond my budget. Got any ideas who might still carry the Calvin? Thanks Steve

Feathercraft carries this one. Hope this shows as a link, if not copy and paste it.

Scroll about 3/4 down the page.
Sounds like what you are looking for.

Yep, that's what I was calling the Calvin wrapper. Great little device, even at the $12 price. I'm glad to know it's still available somewhere.

I think Mud Hole carries it as well.
