cracked epoxy

A friend of mine did a beautiful Sage SPL about 2 years ago for his first rod, and I did the overseeing of it - kind of like the blind leading the blind - but it looked like he did everything right, but shortly after he finished it the epoxy started cracking around the guides. Anybody know what could cause this? Re: cracked epoxy

Usually not enough tapper of the guide feet. need a nice long taper. may not cure it all the way but really helps If you can find it there is a picture of some guides done on the photo page Re: cracked epoxy

Right, if you're talking about a slight stretch mark or crack at the ends of the guide feet, it's due to the fact that guides and blanks don't flex at the same rate. The blank flexes, the guide resists flexing and the thread and finish take the brunt of the problem.
As Bill said, a very shallow taper on the ends of the guide feet will help make the guide foot a little more flexible. ......... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
