Just a few words on paint for marbleing work. I am in the middle of building a new crappie rod (11 foot). I checked my testors paint and found my white and green paint were all dried up. I started to go to town to buy some new paint and I remembered my wife does oil painting. I figured, Why not? so I grabbed a few tubes of her paint and it worked out great. I marbled a split handle, in front of the foregrip and the eyes and I am totally satisfied with my results.

Hi, Sam-there's lots of different pigments that work good for marbling including Testor's and the artist's pigments in tubes (man, there's lots of different brands of these hummers!). TAP makes some good colors and there's a wide variety of powdered pigments. I still like the hardware store pigments in purple, blue, and green because they're so DARK to begin with and I can get so many different shades of each color in one marbling. But, yeah, the artist's brands work great; I've used Graham's, Winton, and Daler~Rowney so far.

You forgot to tell him about the mess that can result from acrylics! I have had enough messes with acrylics to stay away from them. The sources Putter said all work well. One thing I learned from Putter, If you want gold, get liquid leaf (maybe its gold leaf I can't remember). You can get this in the crafts Dept. at Walmart. Some people claim they have gotten good results from acrylics, but I have had enough messes that I don't even think about using them.
