I`ve got a factory pre finished blank in black origin unknown.
when i tried wrapping it (with various tensions including almost none) the thread cuts into the finish and `bleeds` through the thread making burnishing impossible any one got any ideas?? It seems that the thread no matter how well packed when wrapping (as tight together as my 40x magnifier will let me get them anyway) slips and the finish bleeds up is the blank screwed and needs refinishing or is it me or is it the fairys playing games ? I would guess you might try some Perma gloss on the areas you want to wrap or refinish the whole blandk, Sounds like the exterior finish on the rod didnt really set. Re: finish problem

I have seen a few blanks, most from years ago, that had a bit of a soft finish and the thread would leave marks in the surface if you removed it and took a look there. But I don't think I've ever seen quite what you're talking about. I'd have to see a photo in order to get a better understanding of what you're dealing with.

I'd try some Permagloss in an area that won't show (just in case there's a reaction between the two). Then try a wrap over top of it.
This is a strange problem; I've only seen it where I wrapped over very freshly-cured two part epoxy finish. Putter Williston, ND Re: finish problem

Tom let me try any explain
the thread seems to move away fom the one next to it because the finish is being dug intoand forcing the ridge between the two `cuts`upwards a bit like squeezing play doh through your fingers I have sanded an inconspickuous bit and it seems fairly hard not "pulling out" like new paint would I`m using a grade gudebrod ncp on it thanks allen Re: finish problem

If you are getting a good "cut" while sanding, rather than pulling gooey boogers, I can't imagine thread cutting into it, especially on low tension. A bit of a puzzler. You have no idea who made the blank? If you don't know who made it, are you really sure it is factory and not painted/finished by some middle guy? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
