best for salt plugging: eva/hypalon or cork ???

what's the best for salt plugging: eva/hypalon or cork ???

I'm building a Lami 7' 1 piece for myself, being a med-heavy blank, the butt is quite large in diameter (almost 5/8"). Was planning on using cork, but after I'm done reaming it, will there be enough left to be durable?

Opinions?

Blank chosen is: LS-XC86H-MB

Thanks -- pph

I don't want to sound heretical, but about 98% of my fishing is surf, and a good bit of that is with plugs.

After trying all the different materials -- cork, EVA, hypalon, etc. - I would never build any surf rod with anything other than cork tape. This is my personal preference, and others may disagree with me, but I've found that the sythetics are too soft, and cork is too flimsy, at least for the heavy-duty use I put my surf sticks through. Cork tape is firm enough to suit my tastes, yet has a little give - especially the 1/8" heavy duty stuff I've been using lately.

Just my 2 cents....

I'll Second the Cork Tape suggestion. Good Grip even when Wet!

For a 7' rod I would go with a cork handle. Ed

Exotic Burl Cork, in a split grip configuration.
It'll give you the feel of natural cork (because it is in a granulated form) but, is Infinitely more durable...and looks very cool as well.

Andy's exotic burl looks very cool indeed. Andy, I tried sending you an email to that new address but kept getting it back. I sent a reply to the old on that you are having trouble with. If I don't heard from it today, I'll just give you a call...no problem.
