Blank suggestions for Arctic Char

Hey all,
I'm searching the right blank for a fly rod for arctic chars.
The rivers are rocky and fast, so i have to cast heavy streamers or Jigs. I expact Chars from 3-5pounds

Someone can give me a hand.

Thanks
Pascal Ritzer

I'm guessing a 6 or even 7-weight is going to be what you're looking at. I like fast action fly rods, the faster the better for me. That's just my personal opinion, but I'd look for a rod with an AA in the upper 60's minimum.

The first one that comes to mind is the St Croix SCIV or SCV. I figure the fast water you want to cast with a fast action so you can cast often and quick to get in a lot of casts.
You could wait and see what others have used and even go and try a search of the web for site suggestions on equipment.

I'd go with at least a 7 wt and a big large arbor reel as I've seen lots of 5 -6 lb char run 150 to 200 yds in fast water. Have had to use sinktips in the 100 - 300 range and have wished for a 400 a time or two. 12 - 15 lb tippets if you want to get your fly back off hangups.

Thanks,
I like also fast blanks for casting but would a moderate-fast taper not be nicer if a fish is on?
I will go for a 7-weight, for the blank i'm not sure, yet.

DC FT 906-4...plenty of rod for char...I fished one for steelhead for a while and those run up to 16lbs in this neck of the woods.
