lamiglas blank alternatives

I've been considering building a Lamiglas Certified Pro steelhead casting rod. 10'6", 6-10 lb. line. I have an off the shelf model and just love the mod. fast action and it's lightness. I would like to build a new one spiral wrapped. The problem is the price. Somewhere around $150. Any suggestions for similar quality and feel in a different, lower priced blank? I already have 2 Rainshadows and would like to try something else. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Layman. The lamiglas blanks are unique. I have fished them for many years. I have found no other blank like them. Their low end blanks are heavy as compared to similar blanks in there catagory. Their butt sections are big, and strong, but also have a tip that is very sensative. I used to catch alot of chum salmon on them and if you know anything about chum salmon, they really test a blank. I have not tested some of the blanks that are out there, but if you like the feel of a lamiglas you better stick with it. The only other alternitive is to go to a sportsmans show and try to find some rodbuilding booths that may have some blanks to wiggle.

Give Glenn Wicks Fishing Rods a call at 541-895-2788 in Oregon or e-mail gwicksfishrods@juno.com. He usally has lots of Lamiglas blanks that are either seconds or out dated models at very reasonable prices. He has helped me out with several rods and his service is good. Lon
