I have a 5wt, 4 pc "Tiger Eye' balnk sitting on my desk as my next project. Bought it because it seemed like a reasonable price, and saw a post or two on this board complimenting it. But being immersed in a brand-driven society, I was wondering who makes this stick? Who stands behind it etc.? Are all Tiger Eye's, real Tiger Eyes?

Also, an aesthetic question:

Anyone have a tip on an attractive thread color or combo that works well on these brown blanks (without color preserver)?

I like chestnut thread w/out color preserver, tipped with burnt orange ncp or gold metallic. Never have really understood the "Tiger Eye" description for the color of these blanks (maybe because I've never looked into the eye of the tiger).

When I make rods from these blanks, I use NCP Chestnut with NCP tan or Gold metallic for highlights AND gold SF wire guides, gold metal reelseat.

They are a fine little blank.

i have wrapped them with gudbrod medium brown, gudbrod candy apple red. when using brown i have accented with silver two strand inlays (using sulky metalic, not gudbrod) and it looks very rich. these blanks come alive in the sun. very nice for the money.

I recently finished one with just Gudebrod Gold 340, no CP. I really liked the final look. Here's a pic. This was intended to show the grip, but you can see a little of the guide wraps. An interesting thing with this blank and any wraps is really how it looks in the sunshine. I did another in Garnet. I like it too :), but very different look. A picture is on the photo page.

(Tiger's eye, Tigers eye, Tiger eye ) is a yellow- to red-brown gemstone with a silky luster. Now I understand.

i've used gudebrod chestnut with NO color preserver. i think i used NCP white thread as very thin trim. sharp.

I'm not sure who made this statement a long time ago on the board, but I couldn't agree more, "Is there any blank that garnet does not look good on?"

Made two recently, first was wrapped in dark green with CP with silver trims and a green and silver reel seat on 9ft 8wt. It looked suprisingly sharp. Second was Chestnut with cp, two turns of gold in the beginning of the wrap and one turn of black 6 turns prior to the end. This is more of a subtle eye catcher. good luck

Lots of colors look great on this blank,especially the various shades of brown and darker greens/olives.Garnet also looks great,as does black/orange Classic Twist without CP,as it turns into a nice light/dark brown color that looks like wood grain.

For trim,again,everything seems to look nice on them,but I really like metallics like gold and especially copper.A medium brown wrap with metallic copper trim looks great.

funny you should mention the orange/black classic twist tony. i have a tiger eye waiting for that treatment in the coming months. also, no color preserver.
