There is a market for custom rods, but it's not a very large one. And, it's just like any other market - some folks look for a "deal" with others looking only for the very finest workmanship and performance they can get.
But if you'd rather just build them and not worry about selling them, surely as a fishermen you realize that you can't have too many rods. And, you can always donate or give them to local charity groups for @#$%&, or provide friends and family with rods. ........... Re: what to do

Show your rods to friends, family, etc. and you will probably get some interest... If you truly love building, let them buy all the materials and you supply the labor. That way you get to keep building w/o spending any money. You may get good enought to start selling them for profit. Re: what to do

Stand them neatly in corners as you can can get more in a corner that way! I haven't and I'm about to run out of corners and corner space. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: what to do

Stan, move your desk to the middle of the wall and you can stack them on both sides of it and free up one more corner... :) Putter Williston, ND Re: what to do

Stan,
I've got a couple corners that I'd be glad to loan you. Just bring your extras to Charlotte and I'll take them home and put them in a corner for you!!! Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: what to do

Stephen,
Putter and Mike are just two among many of those who will sacrifice their time to offer solutions to your rod building problems. Consider yourself fortunate to have discovered this forum. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: what to do

I built a rod for a co-worker who decided just before I was ready to give it to him that he no longer wanted it. I was fortunate that someone on @#$%& wanted it enough to pay what I considered "cost". Materials and my time went for a grand $125. There isn't much market there. He did email me that the rod was beautiful, and when he cast it he thought it cast like a $600 rod. I figured that if he thought it was like a $600 rod, he probably doesn't own one. LOL! But it made me feel good that a stranger was happy with it.
I would think you'll end up like most of us hobby builders, with too many to fish with. I do like to take mine out of the tubes and look at them once in a while. ;o) (I have an even dozen, with two new Scotts and a G. Loomis and Fly Logic, all waiting to become like $600 rods. Well, actually one of the Scott's will be pretty close to that!) Dave Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
