Using the search function I came close to, but not right onto, an answer for this little problem. I have a 5wt fly rod that I began using last summer. I was just cleaning rods and I noticed 4 or 5 serpentine scratches on one of the male ferrules. It appears that sand or something get into the female end and when I put the rod together again the scratches resulted. I looked at them under a magnifying glass and it seems that only the finished is scratched. A second question is whether I should anticipate the femal ferrule being damaged and breaking.
I was thinking I could scuff the ferrule with scotchbrite and try a thin coat of something like Permagloss. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. A second question is whether I should anticipate the femal ferrule being damaged and breaking. Aaron Harp P.S. Nothing was in the female ferrule and I reamed it out with alcohol and a cloth just in case. Re: Male Ferrule Scratches

Try tinting your permagloss with Testors model paint to match the blank color. Pour off the solvent and just use the pigment in the bottom of the bottle. Doesn't take much just a drop or 2 off a toothpick. I would guess if you didn't see any damage in the female ends you should be OK. Bill in WV Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
