How do you put the little pieces of pie together neatly and without glue all over? I just received my jig from Custom Tackle. I do not know the sequence of cutting and gluing. I am using eva. Thank you Re: checkerboard gluing question

I would suggest that you put a whole piece of the foam in the bottom of the jig so the knife blade doesn't dull on the metal. Use a long Exacto blade that will fit the slot and span the opening of the jig and drag it across the foam to cut it. If you got thet right jig you should have enough slots to cut all the pie shapped pieces. After you have the colors that you want to piece together use contact cement to attach them edge to edge to make a complete circle of the different colors. Then stack and glue them. I would suggest that you stack them on a mandrel or piece of rod blank because if the are not aligned when you put them together you'll never get them apart to realign them. Another thing, cut the center hole as close to the size of the blank diameter as you can, it will make it easier when you put the pieces on the rod. Re: checkerboard gluing question

Using EVA you do not use glue, you use Contact cement. Any excesswill get sanded off. 2 quick things:
1. too much CC between EVA and it will be slightly noticeable 2. pressing teh pieces together with either too much glue, or while hte glue is wet - will result in the seam possibly splitting down the road. Re: checkerboard gluing question

Weldwood Red Can. The stuff is NASTY though. Use it in a WELL VENTILATED area. I've posted a few times after getting sick & high from the stuff, I do not mes around any more.
The Green can isn't as nasty fume wise, but it doesn't hold as well. I have never tried it myself, but know 3 people who have and they've done quite a bit more than I have wth EVA grip inlays, and all 3 preferred teh Red can by a wide margin. PS - I use WEldwood for cork rings & the one time I did cork inlays. NO problems at all - actually teh glue joint is stronger than the material - if you glue checkerboards together PROPERLY, it set, then pull it apart, I find the material tears before the joint fails.
