Rod building 2 part glues/adhesives and finish are all epoxies and are normally both formulated to remain flexible for a good period of time.
The main difference is that the adhesive is made to join two things together (grip and rod blank for example) with proper surface prep (see online "LIBRARY" link above for Ralph O'Quinn's article on proper surface preparation). The finish is for putting over top of thread wraps and decal areas, generally. The finish isn't really an adhesive, though it does have some adhesive qualities. Just don't use the finish to put your seat or handle on. Re: noob glue question

Stay away from 5 min. epoxy. It simply does not have enough " margin of error factor " about it. Especially when you are a new rod builder and very prone to getting nervous or over looking something that later in your building years will just become second nature to you. Go slow , learn and savor the whole building experience. " Take some time along the way to smell the epoxy! " Enjoy !!! Re: noob glue question

If and when you become fully afflicted with the effects of the "rod building disease" obtain some Rod Bond for your adhesive needs and never look back! Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
