I have only attempted to build a few spinning rods for saltwater use. I wanted to try my hand at building a deep sea fishing rod. Grouper, amberjack, etc. My queston is, should the guides be wrapped with a D thread or will C suffice? Anything different as far wrapping them? Thanks Re: Boat Rod

A works just fine. Nothing different, a rod is a rod. Different handle, different guides, same basics. Re: Boat Rod

Brian,Be sure that you spiral wrap the rod. @#$%& spiral roller guides are a great(but expensive) choice. Any good guide will work though. As Billy said A is fine. I like to underwrap mine. I am in the process of building a rod for the same speices with spiral rollers

I would most likely use C or D thread, if only for the little extra abrasion protection they'd provide on a heavy duty boat or pier rod.

Brian, C or D will work fine. You might want to put a double overwrap but only where the guide feet end about 1/8 or 1/4 inch our so to cover the end of the foot. This is where old wraps start to fail first. If you pick up an old factory rod you'll notice sometimes the epoxy is cracking right around that area. Or just build up the epoxy more in this area. Just a thought Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
