What do you think about the urethane filler used to secure the reel seat to the blank? My concern is that it will become brittle in time and loosen the reel seat. I have used wooden fillers in the past . Bill

What do you mean by "filler?" Are you referring to adhesive? Modern Urethanes are not going to get brittle. In addition, there is nothing wrong with our current 2 part epoxies for adhering our handle and seat pieces to the rod blank. They are stronger than the pieces themselves.

...and if you're speaking of arbors, or bushings, urethane arbors aren't going to give any trouble through the years. Very light, graphite or brick foam being just a tad lighter.

I was refering to the arbors. I know tha urethane breaks down with age and wondered how they would hold up. Thanks Bill

The urethance foam arbors haven't been around long enough to state emphatically that they'll hold up longer than you will, but I suspect that they will. I'd use them with confidence.

I don't know where this nonsense that urethane breaks down with age is coming from--I have seen this type of urethane in test chamgers go the equivelant of several thousand years. I would'nt hold my breath waiting for it to break down in a fishing rod handle.
