For my first rod I ordered a 8'4" 4 weight 3 piece sig v from dan, along with single foot wire guides. He only gave me 9 guides (10 with the tip). The only spacing he gave me is a 10 guide spacing. Does anyone have a good 9 guide spacing for this rod....just something I can start out with to test.
thanks Re: Guide spacing 8'4" Signature V

Get with Dan and get a couple more guides. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Guide spacing 8'4" Signature V

Sorry Robert, mine has 10 guides.....
5 10 15.25 21.25 27.5 34 42 50.75 61 73 But that isn't nine...so it probably doesn't help you. How close is that to Dan's spacing? Don't remember if I used it or not. By the way....you're going to love this rod! Keith Re: Guide spacing 8'4" Signature V

That spacing is within about .25 on every guide to Dan's Re: Guide spacing 8'4" Signature V

dan sent me a chart showing guide spacing for his blanks and the spacing for the 8'-4" 3pc 4wt Sig V are:
4.75", 9.75", 15", 20.875", 27", 33.875", 41.5", 50.25", 60.5" and 72.5". i used only 9 guides on my 8-4 SIG V though and my spacing was: 4", 9", 15", 21", 27", 33.5", 41.25", 49.75", 60" and the stripper at 72". I wish i could tell you i am a genius at guide spacing efficiency but i can't. i didn't do a stress test correctly as outlined in the FAQ. i might have been short a guide and chose to not wait. it does perform well and i catch fish. eric fresno, ca. I have been able to cut the total number of guides on a number of fly rods by using the static guide placement method in the library and test casting the rod. Have been able to drop at least one guide on most rods and two on others, on a 10 ft switch rod was able to decrease the total numer of guides to 8. The static placement and test casting takes a little extra time but is well worth the effort, imho the test casting is very important to proper placement and number of guides, that is what a custom built rod is all about.
