Gatti blank breakage

Has anyone else experienced breakages of the tip portion of two-piece, 6 foot, ultralight spinning blanks manufactured by Gatti? I recently wrapped two such blanks in strict accordance with Gatti's guide placement enclosure, tested them to assure the spacing was accurate, and shipped the completed rods. Both broke at the joint, which leads me to believe that portion of the tip section is too weak.
I've made custom rods for over twenty years, with no prior such events. I know how to safely wrap, place guides, test, so I'm puzzled. These were the first Gatti blanks I've used. Re: Gatti blank breakage

I have heard about a fly blank breaking, the only thing that I really heard about it was that it was just above the ferrule. Don't know how many pieces it was, only that it was a real bear getting a warranty replacement. Had something to do with dealing with the factory in Italy.
Good luck with that. Re: Gatti blank breakage

I was considering making a rod for a friend using a Gatti blank and asked about them on a number of forums. I was told by many that they experienced breakage. Because of it I've decided to avoid them, at least for now. Re: Gatti blank breakage

Hi Charles,
Could it have been user error? Did you ship both rods to the same customer? U/L blanks of any manufacturer will not take much if not used correctly. Not trying to defend Gatti and have never used there blanks. Just thinking out loud. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Gatti blank breakage

Know of one Gatti 7 ft MH spinning blank in Alaska that gets used on salmon all the time. I think it will be on it's 3rd season this spring. About the only thing I can say is he uses it hard, just not like an Ugly Stick. The 8 wt fly rods I've been around are doing well and the people love them. Re: Gatti blank breakage
