I just got done doing my first show. Overall I am pleased with the way things turned out. I got an order for a rod. The gentlemen wants to use 10 lb spectra line on a spinning reel, wants a 2 piece rod not more then 5' 6" long. What type of blank can you guys recommend. and also what type of guides because I have heard with the specta you need to be careful on the guide selection. As always thank you in advance for your help. Scott Re: Need Help with Blank and Guides

Spectra line doesn't hurt guides in anyway. It's the sand and dirt people get in the spectra fibers that acts like an abrasive. I usually boat fish with spectra and even when bank fishing try not the put my rod and reels in the water or dirt as much as I can. Have never had a guide damaged in the last 12 years or so that I've been using the stuff. Re: Need Help with Blank and Guides

Scott,
You didn't mention what the gentleman wants the rod for. Is this an ultralite? Re: Need Help with Blank and Guides

He remembers to set his drag to the blank capabilities, and not the breaking strength of the line. Might be a potential problem down the road to consider...... FWIW

Why does he want a 2-pc for a UL or L power rod?
Does he have a luggage / airline limitation? (1/2 of 5'6" = ~ 34") Could use a 3-pc rod that is longer than 5'6" (66") ? If he wants a 10# rod rating, that's a little tricky. Consider a FAST action 2-pc 6'0" ~10# rod, and then do all the shortening from the butt end to get down to a 5'6" length overall assembled. St. Croix Model #: PS-6'0"-ML-Fast-2pc 4-10# line If he wants a really LITE or ULTRA-LITE 2-pc rod ~5'6", then these rod blanks may suit his needs: RAINSHADOW IS-66"-1-F(ferruled = 2-pc) RX7 Graphite 2-6# line ~$26 Close-Out. ...
