First different butt wrap pretty proud of it so decided to use cp,first time,to hold in place while finishing guides, etc. Just a wash out of color. Next time practice first, I guess. Also thought cp would hold my color.Used cp thread. What is normal practice? Thanks Re: CP disaster

Color preserver will hold the color in very nearly the shade it was while on the thread spool. You might lose one shade at best, if you're working with very light thread over a very dark colored rod blank. How did you apply the CP? Did you thin it? By how much?
NCP thread is opaque and normally requires no color preserver to keep it from turning transparent, but it can also darken by a shade over a dark rod blank. ......... Re: CP disaster

I saturated the thread with flexcoat cp.I did not thin it. I used cp because I thought it would hold the threads. Orange on a black blank.Maybe after it sits long enough it will come back. Thanks Re: CP disaster

If you saturated it, it should darken back up to original color when it completely dries. I always let it dry overnight before I apply finish. Don't know if it;s necessary, but works for me. Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: CP disaster

Yes, the thread will always darken when you wet it with anything. With CP, the color will return after the CP has dried.
If you see splotches or dark areas, you're most likely looking at sections where you did not pack the threads together uniformly. .......... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
