I plan to use nylon cord split grips on a surf rod. My plan is to slather Rod Bond where the grip will go and wrap the cord tightly with the tag ends neatly buried. I'll tape the grip securely; clean up any excess Rod Bond and wait until it cures.

My goal is to then flock the grips. Will the flocking get into the slight grooves between each coil of the nylon cord? It appears to me that I will be able to adjust the aim of the flocker to shoot straight ( at 90 degrees) at the walls of the grooves.

Does anyone know if this is a good plan?

I don't have the flocker yet but I would like to attach the nylon cord now and will protect it with plastic wrap until I am ready to apply the flocking.

The flocker needs to be held at the same angle all the time, otherwise you'll get varied orientation of the fibers which looks a little "scruffy."

Generally, the flocking will stick anywhere where you have applied adhesive.

I will be sitting in the bleachers in left field watching you pitch this one! If you put on the adhesive and flock, flock, flock, flock you will have the thing well covered. I would guess the adhesive sticks to nylon - dunno for sure. You may want to take a broomstick and wrap a couple of inches with cord and practice with it first to establish your targeting! Let us all know how it comes out.

When I do cord grips I don't put ant adhesive on the blank...I just wrap the cord....Seal it with Spar Varnish...And go for it. Plab to do a few cord grips with an open chevron pattern and cover the cord with heat shrink to see how that works as well.
