Hello,
I am in the market for a new 4pc 8wt, and am thinking of using an FT 908. I already have an FT 9' 10wt. Looking at the specs, the 8wt and the 10wt are close to identical (Butt and tip dia). So, my question is, how much difference will there be in the 8wt? Since I already have the 10 (which I like very much btw), I really don't want to have another one. I am hoping that it is just coincidence that the specs are close and the 8wt will work as intended. I am slightly concerned that this rod would be too powerful to throw my intended lines, since the 10wt can handle 450 grns heads with ease (400 grns almost seemed too light). My application would be for my big CA surf fly rod, bass, Delta Stripers, inshore, etc..Mostly using shooting heads (~300grns), but occasionally a full floater will be used. Any feedback from those that have buit both, or use the 8wt with the lines stated above? Other options for a fast, and resonably priced blank? Thanks! Barret,
I'm fairly new to fly fishing/casting. I built an FT908 awhile back. took it to the upper rogue river and in short order hooked, landed and released several steelhead ranging in size from 5 to 10lbs. My reel is loaded with a cortland 444 #8WF. My last day fishing I hooked and purposefully broke off 3 spring salmon, all of a size, 15 to 25lbs. the rod handled them no problem what so ever. and of course this was in swift water. i think the FT908 would handle your fishing situation with ease. here is a link to the building of my FT908 [www.theworriedshrimp.com] now if only my dan craft sig V 5wt blank would show up... cheers! tws Re: (another) Dan Craft FT Question. 8wt vs 10wt.
