Another silly question from a "newbie"
When you wrap chevrons and mark the cenre line do you mark "around the rod " or "along the rod" i got the books but cant work it out . I`m trying to wrap a fish running along the rod but facing across the rod
hope this makess sense and some one can help me out with a seemingly "basic" problem

Allen,

Here is a good link explaining some of the cross wraps [www.leapinbass.com] You lay out your patterns along the length of the blank, using a mark at each point that you want the cross points to be.

looked on there its basicly the same as the books I`ve got how did he lay out the fish pattern it looks like he put a centre line in then offset it along the axis or am I looking at it 90 degrees out ???
I know I`m probably missing a simple mark here but i cant seem to get my head round it .

Allen,
Maybe this will help?
www.kensfishingrods.com/workshop/wkb_wraps/wrap_intro.htm

Lay out the horizontal line(s) then the crossing points taking into account the lenght of the wraps and the taper of the blank.

You want a line running lengthwise on the blank (I use the glare line from my overhead light while some tape a thread, etc) Place a small mark of some kind at each point that you want your first pass of threads to cross. Rotate the blank 180 dfegrees and do the same thing placing the marks midway between the location of the marks on the other side. Might not be much help but I can't think of any way to explain it

Hey! Nice and simple tutorials Mike & Ken

I've got them saved!! Will save me lots of explanation time later on.

Thanks,

Allen,
Check the directory here and see if there is anyone in your area. If so, try contacting them and set up a face
to face. Sometimes all it takes is to watch someone do it once and then everything just clicks. Builders list
themselves in the directory so others can contact them so you will not be bothering them at all. I'm positive
I can speak for everyone on that point. Right all???

Raymond,
Saturdays here are "drop by & get your hands dirty" days. Anyone in the area is welcome. You're right too - I don't believe I've ever met anyone that wouldn't share his time and experiences swapping ideas tips, tricks & techniques. Well, maybe ONE in my local area ... He's "different"

Okay, I understand what you're asking. You want the fish swimming across the rod instead of along the rod.

A fish design is made by a diamond (eye) then a chevron backing that for the body and another chevron, usually plus-one spacing, for the tail. You will have to work on 2 different axii, both running along the blank (tip to butt).

If you were making the fish so that they were swimming "towards the tip" rather than across the rod, you could make the centers all on the same axis.
