Problem under But Wrap What to do?

While attempting to sand down the Flexcoat over the but section of my XP (Wavy Finish) I accidentally sanded down to the blank and scuffed the finish. The graphite seems to be in good shape, but now I'm wondering how I'm going to remove the But Wrap and Flexcoat, and match the finish of the original rod. Any suggestions?

Regards,

I forgot so say I sanded down to the blank in front of the wraps, don't know if that makes any difference?

You can easily remove the old wrap (check the FAQs page) but what you may want to do is just extend the wraps with a trim or two and finish over them. You'll have a hard time matching paint and getting things to look perfect there.

There is another way you might want to try. I would take off the butt wrap and
scuff the finish with some scotch brite. Next take some electrical tape and mask
off the area you want to finish. I use classic coat and put a couple off drops of
testors paint in with the finish and coat the whole area. You should be able to
find enamel paint to match or blend a attractive color to go along with the blank
color. If it was me I'd marbelize that area with some different colors and forget
the butt wrap. Recently I had trouble with orange wrap turning dark in some
areas so I mixed some orange enamel in the finish and coated with that. I needed
it for a Christmas gift and it turned out great. good luck , John
