I have rods that have been used exclusively in saltwater for many years with no degradation. Re: Saltwater and Graphite ?

The Graphite materials used in rod building (blanks & reel seats) are virtually INERT. They are not affected by saltwater, salts or acids (which cause corrosion). They are unaffected by most common alcohols (EtOH, D-NA, IPA). Sunlight and moderate heat have almost no affect. And they are quite strong. Along with ceramic guide rings, graphite- based structural materials are just about the best thing to happen to rod-building since bamboo gave way to fiberglass. IMO, ...(apologies to the Bamboo Rod-Makers.) -CMH+++ Re: Saltwater and Graphite ?

Saltwater leaves a small white crystallike substance on the blank. Combine this with scales, slime, clam snot, a few scratches, some UV exposure to turn teh epoxy yellow - and you got yourself a well used fishing rod. Re: Saltwater and Graphite ?

"Clam snot" ... like "slug slime" only from the ocean. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
