TFO and CCS...

Dr. Hanneman called me this afternoon to check the status on a new article he's written. During our conversation, he mentioned that Temple Fork Outfitters has sent him a complete selection of their TFO Fly Rods for his Common Cents Analysis. They want the CCS data for each of their rods. Whether they will label the rods with the CCS numbers or just want the data so they can better rate the rods for the proper lines we don't know yet, but we do know they thought enough of this system that they sent Dr. Hanneman a box load of rods to measure for them.

Lest anyone think the major fly rod makers haven't taken notice of the Common Cents System, this should be proof that they have. The only question is, who will be next?

The reason there are all those TFO blanks in the database is because TFO sent them to me and asked me to test them and post them. That told me right away that they thought quite a bit of the system. Rick Pope strikes me as a "let's do what works" kind of guy. You gotta respect that! Dan Craft has also provided many blanks for me to test and submit to the database. I applaud any manufacturer or vendor who makes the effort to communicate better with customers. This is really useful information for selecting the right blank or rod for each particular purpose.

I agree with Steve in applauding the manufacturer or vendor who makes that extra effort regarding Common Cents information. Since the CC System has become available I have applied it to all of the blanks I have purchased or built on. We are still in the infancy of compiling a data base with fairly robust numbers but thanks to the erfforts of Bob Hessor, Steve and many others I'll be purchasing future blanks manufactured by those that have enough data provided on the CCS site to allow me to make informed choices. I'm weary of making choices based on sales propaganda as there are too many good rod blanks available.

I stand ready to take any of those "measured / possibly marred" blanks of f Doc's hands when he's completed the measurements --- if he would like a "post guides on referral" LOL ! ! !

Have Dr. Hanneman send me an email with the results (if they're not in the article) and I'll get them on the site. I've been very impressed with the the TFO TiCr blanks that I've built on.

Wow! I started a dialog with Rick back when the first CCS article came out. He and I both posted on a now defunct fishing board at the time. He seemed really interested, and sent me one 6 wt. TiCr blank to test and report back to him on. I did that, but #1 son came, that board died, and we lost touch. Great to see he followed up with you Steve! I still have that rod, and it's the fastest fly rod I've ever had my hands on...

Dr. Hanneman told me that he planned to submit to Bob for publication on the CCS data site. I'm sure he'll be in touch.

He also mentioned that none of the various series of TFO rods with the same line weight number possessed the same relative power. In other words, if you take each of their available 5 weight rods from each series, none will have the same power. I'd guess that this is the sort of thing that TFO wants to know about.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the data.
