Am I doing it correct?
Stripper guide placed as per normal for an overhead reel/bait caster (on top). All the other guides spaced as though building a rod for a spinning reel/egg beater (underneath). An additional guide (as small as practical) placed half way between the stripper and second guide. This guide is called the bumper guide and is placed at 90 degrees to the stripper guide. Is this the basic recipe and am I doing it right? Thanking you in advance for any feed back. Jason. Re: spiral wrap-is this correct

Sounds correct, Jason. Tape or rubberband your bumper in place and run the line through the guides. The line should touch the bottom (the side with the guide foot) of the guide. There shouldn't be any stress on the bumper. It only acts as a spacer or as the name implies "bumper" to keep line from rubbing against the blank.

I'd change the wording a little bit; not just a small guide (for the bumper), but a guide with the ring LOW to the blank.
Also, the wording of the bumper being "at 90 degrees". I'd see where the bumper wants to sit, it'll be real close to 90 degrees, but on the few I've done, it's closer to 100 or more from the 1st guide. Putter Williston, ND Re: spiral wrap-is this correct

Place your guides on top as in CASTING. Mark where they go and all except the stripper are moved to the underside then stick the bumper between the stripper and the first guide. Re: spiral wrap-is this correct

No, it's not quite correct, but it might work okay.
For the simple spiral wrap set up, forget all about spinning rod set up. Set all the guides on TOP of the rod just as if you're doing a regular baitcasting rod set up. Then, once you have everything spaced properly, spin all the guides to the bottom of the rod except the first one. You can take it fishing just like that, or go back and add an additional guide in-between the first two at 90 degrees. Do not adjust the spacing of the first two if you do this however. ......
