decal application

I have been using the new waterslide decals from Decaal Connection and have been happy. However I sometimes get some cloudiness beneath the decal that is not apparant when the decal is wet.
Do you always apply decals on or over a coat of thread finish? Can they be applied directly to a blank that has been sande with 500 grit paper? Same question for feather inlays. How do you guys do this?
Thanks

The sanding MAY be your problem. There is no need to sand. If the blank under the decal is not glossy, when you apply the finish, the decal prevents the finish from contacting the blank underneath. What the blank looks like under the decal is what it will like like after the decal.

I've only applied 3 but they all look great. I followed the Decal Connection directions and applied the decal over a thin applicaiton of wrap finish. After it dries for a day I apply 1 or 2 more coats of wrap finish on top of the decal.
