How to shape EVA foam grips?

I am looking to build some split grip rods with EVA grips.
How do you form them by hand, what do you use to taper ends,
cut them down to smaller sizes. I am new so any info is appreciative.
Thanks,
Dave

Do you have a lathe to turn them on? If not, it's going to be a little tough to do it. Unlike wood and cork, EVA is so darn resilient that it moves away from cutting tools and/or sandpaper and without being able to turn it somehow, well... You can do it, but it will take quite a bit of time with a rasp and the finished product is not going to be any better than the hours you want to put into it.

If you have a lathe or a power drill that can be employed, then drywall sanding screen in very coarse grits (40 to 80) will make quick work of things. Follow up with 150 and then 220 and you'll be about right.

You just have to mount it in a stand or vise and support the opposite end of the mandrel you're turing the grips on in something that will allow it to turn without "whippling."
