Mudhole Special Fiberglass Blanks

I'm looking to build a couple fiberglass rods to handle some serious grouper fishing in the gulf. I had a 50# rated glass/graphite composite rod explode (into 3 pieces) on me yesterday when doing battle with what I believe to be a shark. I don't wish to repeat that experience. Anyways, I was looking at the 5'6" mudhole special fiberglass blank rated for 50-100 # line. I would assume that this would be able to handle some serious grouper fishing, but was curious if anyone had any experience with these blanks???

Thanks!

You might want to check the cascade blanks they have left. I believe they may have a few of the 80# IGFA 5'3" blanks left. This should be more than enough to handle the serious grouper fishing you are talking about. I fish the Gulf (Destin area) for grouper quite often and I put together two of these blanks.

Thanks for the tip, but it looks like they are out of the 80# e-glass and I'm not going to go with another composite. I'm also looking at the Gator Glass blanks. BTW...I'm in P'cola.

Look at calstars fiberglass line, they are just a few dollars more than the gator blanks. Supposed to be indestructable. the long range tuna guys love them and so do alot of other fisherman.

I believe the gator blanks are unsanded and have a finish like ugly sticks. It may not bother you but to me seems a little cheap, and the price for their bigger blanks do not.
