I would appreciate any comments and recommendations on a suitable fly rod blank for surf fishing. The rod will be primarily used in So Cal where the primary species are surf perch, corbina and halibut. I am looking for a fast action 6 wt 10' blank. Up to this point, I have been fishing 9' long 7 and 8 wt rods. It needs to handle a line with a 200-250 grain, 25' sinking head. The flies are usually weighted (e.g Clousers) and range in size from 2-8. So far, I have found a Dan Craft FP blank that may work. Any comments on this blank or alternatives would be appreciated.

Give R. B. Meiser Rods a jingle. He has experience with the Dan Craft blanks and has himself a line of blanks he designed that would work also. Re: rod blank recommendation

I have not had experience with the blank in question but have built a couple of dan craft blanks. i built a
9' 4wt dan craft FT and all i can say is it is the most impressive 4wt i have ever cast. a real cannon. i test cast it with a six wt shooting head and 70 ft was easy just doing an informal lawn cast. i'm sure a better caster would hit a longer distance with ease. i don't know if the 10' ft will be as powerful but should handle the grain wt you are thinking about using.
