I just posted a pic of some disposable dental flossers that are about a buck and a half for 35 of them. Apply the finish up to the edge of the wrap and then just "pull" the finish over the edge on to the blank with the floss. Can be done with rod turning or still. I hand turn when applying and it works great for me!

So just because my mind is small, exactly how do you "pull" the epoxy finish onto the rod? Do you butt it up against the wrap, then pull it down, or do you just rotate it with it right next to the wrap? Either way, I'll be experimenting tonite :)

Lay the floss in the finish that is on the thread and just pull it over the edge of the thread on to the blank. Takes a couple guides to get it down pat, but works nice!!

Mike, that is a great tip! I will try that this weekend. I already use floss threaders to pull the tag end, and various dental picks. Pretty soon my shop will look like a dentist's office.

Hey Mike I use just normal nylon to do the same thing, I think the boss has some of those for the kids so I will give them a go. Any problems with the wax on the floss.

Doesn't seem to be! I don't know if there would even be any reaction from wax. If there is wax, I don't think that it would come off the floss or affect the finish anyway. Anyone help with that one?????????

I was wondering about the wax too. I've looked for non-waxed dental floss to make thread pulls with negative results. Has anyone used waxed floss as pulls with no problems?

There are things called "floss threaders" that are made from nylon monofilament, just like fishing line. They have a built in loop, and work great for me for thread pullers. I have been using one for over 20 rods now. Keep thinking it's gonna wear out, but it hasn't yet. There is a picture on the photo board somewhere; in tools, I think.

So, do you guys not apply finish, via brush, credit card chunk, whatever, past the thread wrap? Cause I been applying finish about an 1/8th inch past the thread both ways while I apply the finish, not moving the finish off the thread and onto the rod as a seperate step. Confusion.

I apply the finish to the wrap, not covering the tunnel ends. Then, as the finish goes thru the threads and fills the tunnels, with a dental pick, I push the finish JUST off the threads on the non-tunnel end onto the blank. Later, I do the same on the tunnel end, covering the ends of the tunnels, Levi. The dental pick does a great job. The bent end allows me to hold my hand at a comfortable position while doing this.
