Has anyone tried Unaxol or other Silicon based finishes?

I just read this [www.woodworkersjournal.com] about Unaxol.
Quote: "Unaxol is a silicone-based waterborne, as opposed to the more familiar polyurethane-based ones. Technically, it is an acrylic modified polysiloxane, a highly flexible, durable type of finish widely used for buildings, bridges, boats and trains." It sound interesting as a thread finish and would have some definite advantages over epoxy and Permagloss. Has anyone used this as a thread or wood finish. All I can say is that the waterborne finishes aren't turning out to be nearly as durable as the solvent based finishes. Sure they're more user friendly but not getting great reviews especially for exterior use. I haven't tried this one so I'm only going by what I'm hearing. John, the traditional spar varnish has diappointed me for an exterior door finish, it gets too brittle with time. I feel like the flexibility of waterbornes is a plus for exterior. I have done some exterior mahagony with a waterborne acrylic urethane that has outlasted an expensive epoxy on mahagony (same building, same exposure, except waterborne received more sunlight and direct snow and rain). I have not tried any of the finishes though that Christian mentions. Re: Has anyone tried Unaxol or other Silicon based finishes?

I understand. As I said I have not tried it but woodworking friends of mine do not seem too happy with the waterborne finishes for exterior use. Main complaint seems to be hardness and adhesion. I'm sure they will continue to improve. Re: Has anyone tried Unaxol or other Silicon based finishes?

BTW
Did anybody tried and use Gudebrod #840 1-part finish? I use it from time to time to "seal" decal area but never tried on the whole wraps Pavel, Moscow, RU Re: Has anyone tried Unaxol or other Silicon based finishes?

Pavel, I've used Gudebrod 1-part finish for quick repairs on inexpensive rods, but not for several years. It works pretty well but Flex-Coat & LS Supreme are both better. IMO Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Has anyone tried Unaxol or other Silicon based finishes?
