Hi Tom Kirkman And All!
I used the Concept Guide Method to place guides on a 6', 6", 2-piece spinning rod. With a reel attached I marked my intersect guide (size 8) at 27 inches. From there, keeping the guide distance 5 inches or less, it took me 5 more #8 guides to get to the tip top. With stripping guides of 25, 16 & 10, the total number of guides is 10. I querried a buddy and he said that was too many guides for that size rod! Have any idea what I did wrong? My first stripping guide is at 17 inches. Any and all opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I did a shorter 6 ft bass spin with 7 guides (#25 butt guide @18") & tip and I was surprised at how well the rod cast. I would suggest replacing the #8's with #6 instead and looking into a 25-12-8Y transition, particularly, if you will be using lighter line (6-8lb) in order to keep the tip as light as possible.

Is your friend a rod builder? A fishermen who is comparing your rod to what he sees on the store racks?

You didn't necessarily do anything wrong. My 6'6" rods with the New Guide Concept System have about 8 guides plus tip-top. You probably wound up with a few more because your intersect point was so close. Most of my freshwater rods have intersect points at about 35 to 40 inches.

How does it cast? How does it fish and feel? Trust your results.
