As my first rod I want to build a 4 weight, 4 peice, 9 foot fly rod. there are so many different blanks out there, how do I know what I want. Can you guys suggest any nice med/fast action rods. I will use it primarily for fishing the Yakima River with nymph set-ups and dries. Please only American Made Rods

Do a search on Dan Craft , read the reviews on his FT and Sig V blanks . I believe they are the best value going . If you want to start with a kit , Hook & Hackle has kits very reasonably priced . Alot of the blanks are American made in the kits , but I would ask to make sure . Dans Ft's are available in 4 pc , though I'm not to sure on the sig V . There are a ton of blanks you could concider for that application . Have fun , JHD

You might want to narrow it down to your price range. Also think about having a colored blank or not.

I want a very high quality blank. Just because it is my first to built doesn't mean I dont want high quality. I already own a few sage rods. My price range is up to $200

don't forget, high quality doesn't necessarily mean high price. look into the dan crafts. the Sig V lineup is only 3 piece. great blanks. if you need four piece, from my recollection, only the FT line is available as a 4 piece blank but the blank's diameter is larger than most for the 4 wt, it's heft and size sure felt bigger than any 4 wt i've used in the past. talk to dan on the phone. don't do email. much better on the phone, more efficient and you'd miss out on the guy's persona through email! :-)
