I put a real nice finish over my first inscription. Well I accidently touched it with two fingers. I was putting a extra dab of finish on the butt wrap. So now what. The prints are not over the inscription thank God but one is real close. I quickly put on a little more finish over the prints but that area now is is more built up than the first finish. Is this where I sand? or should I try a second coat and try to level it as mush as possible just edging it to the raised parts where the build up is? I am leary of sanding that close to the inscription. I guess I won't be showing this one off tomarrow. Any help would be great. Happy thanksgiving! Guess I'm the Turkey. Tom Re: Help! I blew it

Goble - goble, let it dry. If there are any real bad areas sand carefully with 400 paper.
Put on another coat --- keep your hands off, if you want to see how dry it is check the mixing cup, not the rod. been there - done that. Happy Turkey Day. Re: Help! I blew it

The raised part is about were it would be if a second coat were added. I think I can carefully raise the rest of the area to match without sanding. Thanks Bill. Re: Help! I blew it

You might be asking for more trouble by trying to do just parts. You need to sand the whole thing. Don't worry about it. Once you apply finish to the sanded part, It will look brand new. Very common, happens all the time and a very easy fix.

Mike beat me to it. When something like this happens, it is rare when you can "touch up" with finish. If you want to get the best cover up, you have to put a thin layer over the whole thing. You may be able to put a coat of finish over it the way it is and have it come out okay, but depending on how bad it is, what I would do is block sand the raised areas until level with the "original" finish and put on another thin coat over the whole thing. This is one of my primary uses for permagloss, a final, very thin finish over flex coat. Re: Help! I blew it

Tom,Epoxy finish does not "blend" well to other parts of the surface. An example would be the area where the wrap ends and the finish is flowed onto the blank to seal the wrap. This does not taper off gradually but end rather abruptly. There for trying to build the low part to match the high spot will result in a noticable line at the end of the last coat.Do as the last few posts recomend and wait til Christmas to show off the rod rather than rush it and run into some other concerns. You are not a turkey you are only being schooled the hard way ,but one you`ll remember. Thanks for all your help. I had a practice blank when I experimented with fix a tiff over my writing. So I started sanding the FC on the practice blank and it looks like it will be much easier than I thought. It's amazing how much light sanding you can do on a finish without getting down to the writing. I will repair it after the holidays and thanks again all. Sticky fingers.
