New idea for finish on guide wraps

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I was sitting around the other day, thinking of new ways to make my rods stand out from the rest. I had come up with the idea of trying to make the finish on the wraps matte. Has anyone tried this yet? I was thinking of getting my hands on some bias cloth and applying it to the wraps at just the right time. The time to apply I'm not sure but I was thinking of somewhere between not wet finish (fresh), but semi hard and tacky. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Good Luck to those who give it a shot. Patrick

Patrick,

what about using spar varnish in a matte, instead of the gloss? i may be mistaken, but i think it is available. Miniwax definitely has high gloss and semi-gloss. I bet the bamboo guys will have some ideas for you.

What you want is a satin poly over the top. You can also rub any wraps down with a polishing compound with a light abrasive to get a matte look. And yes, they look great.

I believe the Ian Miller line of saltwater rods have a matte finish. Never have seen one in person, but from their pictures they don't look shiney at all. Very nice look.
