Just posted a photo on a test I completed with Madeira thread. "Color preserver" vs "No color preserver". Re: Madeira Thread Test

Interesting! I would have expected the no CP stick to be a lot darker. What about fisheyes, etc? From what I understand, there are a lot of problems due to coatings on the thread if no CP is used.

Jim,
Looking at the pic again, I think I know why the thread didn't darken. It's on a beige dowel so there is no dark background to show through. Kind of like yellow thread on a white blank with no CP will be yellow but on a black blank, it will turn very dark. I think that test done on dowels that are painted black or grey will produce different results. Mike Re: Madeira Thread Test

Jim - odd results. The few times I used Madeira for guide wraps, I did so with no CP over a metallic Silver base. I used the same color (1842 Blue) in the butt wrap, which i used CP. When I did the same with Gudebrod, the colors ended up very close in color. WHen I did it with teh PolyNeon's, the color darkened considerably on teh guide wrap wrapped over Silver, and doesnt' really match teh color in teh butt wrap. I've done the same with GReen & a Brown thread wrapped over Gold, and both times the Polyneon's darkened - basically contrary to your tests. That's odd.
