Once again, thanks for all the responses!!
Some have asked for specific applications so here goes... 1.) I want a Loomis MBR845 in IMX or GLX but the MBR845 is only offered in GL3, thus I need an alternative. 2.) I want another rod equivelent to my MBR784 in GLX 3.) need a new carolina rig rod (used to use a MBR844 IMX and really liked it but was a shade light in the tip for my taste) 4.) I want another spinning rod, perhaps a SJ783 in IMX or equivelent, for a variety of lighter tackle, finesse and smallmouth applications. 5.) a one piece (non-teliscopic handle) 7' x-hvy, fast ~ 15-30 pitchin' rod Several of these are available from Loomis currently, but if I'm going to take on the hobby then I would like to begin making all of my own rods. I figured that there were other companies making blanks of equal or compareable weight, stillness, etc. that I should also be looking at. Who knows, maybe I'll find something I like even better. If not, I can still buy Loomis blanks for most applications. I know I'll like getting to pick out the components and stuff. Re: High quality blanks, I need help!

I can say this and I may have to eat my words later, but as a distributor for G*Loomis Blanks, I can tell you that the newer GLX Mag Bass and Spin Jig blanks we have been receiving, have been straight as an arrow. Believe me, we have been taking them out of the plastic sleeves and e-balling them. I know there have been straightness issues in the past and there may be some again, but it does seem that the quality of overall blanks have picked up and the GLX's I've seen, have bee a big surprise at the straightness of those blanks recieved here recently. Keith, just let us know if we can be of any assistance helping you get started. We over have 30 years of expierence of arranging blanks and components for the custom rod builder. If you need help, we can discuss your plans for rods and help you with the choices of components and supplies. We can also be reached via phone at 931-684-6164.

Mr. McKamey,
Thanks for the info, I had hoped that the loomis quality hadn't slipped because I have been a raving fan for many years and have my eye on a few of their blanks. I will definitely give you a call as I get to the point of actually ordering supplies, maybe before to ask some specific questions about the blanks you carry. My gratitude to all of you for jumping in and sharing your insight. -keith Re: High quality blanks, I need help!

Unless I missed it, you didn't mention what type of blanks you were interested in. If it was fly rods, I did notice that nobody mentioned Dan Craft, which was surprising. I've used Sage for years, have built a lot of SC V rods and I believe the Dan Craft blanks are every bit as fine a blank as any of these. On average, I've found the Dan Craft blanks to be straighter and I personally find the SC V finish just a bit fragile. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
