single foot or double foot

I know the answer is probably somewhere in the phorum but I cant seem to find it. I have lived and fished along the Texas coast all my life and as such I use casting rigs. I do not own a spinning rod. I am spiral wrapped a old rod I had that needed new guides and I put double footed guides on it. Looking around though I notice all the spinning rods use single footed guides. Is there a reason to use the singles over the doubles. My sister in law wants me to build her a rod and spiral wrap it. I would prefer to do it correctly the first time. thanks in advance

Single foot guides require half as much wrapping and half as much thread finish.

For the rods I spiral wrap for bass fishing, I use double foot guides for the transition from top to bottom and then use single foot guides out to the tip. The single foot guide will weigh less than the double foot guide once it is all wrapped. The reason for using the double foot guides for the transition, alot of bass tournament guys are very hard on their rods and the double foot guides hold up a little better. I know alot of builders use only single foot guides, and I have tried that, but I seemed to have to keep bending the guides back into place because they got bent by one means or another in the boat.

Like Mike said, double foot can take more abuse but I prefer all single foots (sometimes a double for the butt guide only) switching to the BLAG fly type for all but the first couple. I use the "Bumper" spiral method. I use Forhan locking wraps on all my single foot guides

thanks guys I didn't know if may the double foot on the bottom of the bend might damage the blank. I figured it would only probably stiffen the rod a little. As I am in the same boat as Mike(retired) and I am a little traditional I like the look of double wraps and weight is not a problem.Time isn't either I will get to wrapping. Thanks again guys I just recently began building rods again after about a 25 year hiatus(children) and have finished about 12 rods for family and friends in the last 3 or 4 months. One thing nobody tells you about this rod building addiction is that it is very patient and comes back just as strong even after extended periods. My last rods were when fiberglass was state of the art I would have messed up a lot more(tuition) if it had not been for this phorum and the great people who contribute here.
