Stabilizing cork

I find that some cheap cork with all its imperfection could make into a beautifull handle. Actually some of the beauty of some of the wood we use comes from imprefections in the wood.

But since low grade cork with all the pits does not stand up very well to use I was thinking if cork could be stablilized like wood ?

Has anyone thought of this or tried it and what are your thoughts on this idea ?

Thanks
Peter

You'd make it much, much heavier for sure. It would also have a different appearance - darker and shinier. Although nobody says you have to buff it if you want to stay away from a high gloss look.

A better alternitive might be Andy's newer light colored exotic burl. It's hard as a rock, only a bit heavier and wouldn't really require anything else added to it.

If you do try to stabilize some regular cork, let us know. You might discover a great new grip material.
